He NEEDS to land in a good system. He is super raw and no where close to contributing on the NBA level. However, his highlights in his body, (long fluid 6’9 with room for more muscle) are definitely impressive. He can run, slide, and jump with the best of them. I hope for him he pays off, and maybe after a few years in the G-League, this guy is shocking people as an uber athletic forward with a knack for getting to the paint. Better BBall iq than most of the other pure athletes on this list.

Comparison: Pascal Siakam

Ceiling: young Serge with more wiggle

Amar Sylla has struggled offensively in Europe but shows defensive potential to be a nice rim protector. I think he needs to add a bit more muscle, but he''s a great defender anyway. He needs to improve the three-point shot, and I''m not convinced that he''ll be a great offensive player in the league, and he doesn't have many main skills on the offensive end, very raw.

Projected draft range: 55-undrafted

JULY RE-EVALUATION

Height 6'9

Wingspan 7'2-7'3

Offense

  • Dunks with ease, vert dunks with eyes closed. And then at times last year would airball a layup.

  • A rim runner and lob threat candidate.

  • Has added some weight and finally weighs over 200 lbs. Still possible he could grow a bit more.

  • His mobility and springiness are his major draw ins.

  • High release point on shot. Was shooting a lot of 3's before this season to work on his stroke. Range isn't there yet, inconsistent mechanics but still reason to believe it comes. Inside 10 he is becoming effective.

  • Post game may one day be a threat.

  • Plays with a consistent energy and liveliness that will be hard for others to match.

  • Footwork, jab steps, confidence look good for a young raw player. This and his energy keep my intrigue.

  • Potential to be an outstanding offensive rebounder.

Defense

  • Has cut way down on defensive mental lapses and his IQ/awareness has started to tighten up. We've begun to see him play passing lanes and read passers eyes.

  • Certainly a force inside effecting shots, definitely the furthest along part of his game. When fully engaged he can be a sound rim protector.

  • No reason he shouldn't be able to grab near double figures in rebounds per 36 as long as he continue's to get stronger.

Swing Factors

  • Very raw, but tons of upside- how much work ethic does he possess?

  • Shooting - Will he become an adequate floor spacer?

  • Defensive Awareness - Will his IQ and intuitive thinking continue to blossom to a level where he can maximize his physical gifts?

Role

  • A project energy big who shows flashes of a versatile offensive skillset and the ability to protect the rim for spans of a game.

LOW

  • A highly effective overseas big with spring, rebounding, rim running and rim protecting abilities.

HIGH

  • Initially a project big who grows into a starter with a swiss-army knife of skills including 3-level scoring, floor spacing, rim running, offensive rebounding. Defensively he anchors on the interior and guards the perimeter in spurts.
