Height 7'1 Weight 252 lbs Wingspan 7'3
Offense
Not a post up threat.
Scores off of others passing with very good touch. Sound finisher.
Excellent offensive rebounder. Should really excel here.
Has a little rim running ability, thanks to above average athleticism for size. Finishes in transition.
69 FT%, decent touch. May have a little range yet to be explored.
Defense
Surprising agility and mobility for his size. Very intriguing. Some potential ability to defend further away from the basket.
Very good verticality, strong and stout. Not really going to go through him.
Plus shot blocker with good timing.
Positive rebounder.
Too much foul trouble, needs to be more disciplined.
Swing Factors
Defensive Mobility - Are the glimpses of his defensive mobility frequent enough at the next level that he can be trusted in a little bit of space? Is he a legitimate rim protector?
Acquisition of a new offensive skill - Not much evidence a post game is in his arsenal, but it's not impossible one develops, giving him more offensive flexibility. The other option would be to start getting some consistency on his short mid range game or eventually even some floor spacing skills on C&S. Again no evidence this is there, but still something that can be developed.
Role
A traditional center with positive agility and foot speed to rim protect and rebound. A formidable lob threat.
LOW: Balsa's foot speed and agility doesn't match the NBA game speed. He is useful as a defender only around the rim and offensively he is limited to grabbing occasional offensive rebounds and cleaning up garbage. He holds a spot at the end of a roster for size.
HIGH: Balsa rim protects at a level higher than originally expected due to great agility and foot speed for size. He is a great rebounder overall and a good shot blocker. He maintains effectiveness rolling to the hoop, catching lobs and finishing offensive rebounds. In larger lineups Balsa is starter material.
