Big Board Rankings

Strengths

  • Good size for a point guard at 6-5 with a strong 215-pound frame. Fluid ball handler who operates at different speeds well. Has outstanding body control and pace. Can power through defenders with his strong frame, using long strides, polished footwork and impressive creativity as a finisher.

Areas to Improve

  • Not the most explosive athlete in terms of burst or leaping ability. Isn't always able to create separation from defenders using his first step. Relies heavily on touch and craft inside the arc.

My pick for the best pure passer in the draft (behind maybe Sharife and Giddey). However he can’t do much else at this point. Part of his problem was that he was terribly out of shape this year, and that really hurt his lateral quickness. However if he can do anything scoring wise his playmaking will really open up. Tons of potential if he just picks up the pace on and off the court. As long as he works in an NBA weight room i see this guy being a top tier floor general.

Comparison: Jose Calderon

Ceiling: Andre Miller

Floor: Shelvin Mack lite

Nix is a terrific all-around point guard. He can rebound thanks to his strong 6-5 frame and has passing. He didn''t shoot well during the bubble, but closed out the season well. The guard should be a productive player who can hold his own defensively hopefully. Nix's IQ was evident in the bubble, and he has shaved off weight since the G League season, as pictures from the combine showed a slimmer Nix with a better stroke.

Projected draft range: 40-60

Did not play in any major circuits throughout HS and did not play NCAA basketball. A physically gifted PG recorded at 6''5, 6''5 wingspan, 230 lbs. A test trial run for kids thinking about opting for the G-League as opposed to NCAA or international play before the NBA draft. Scheduled to begin playing for the G-League Ignite in February. Very promising as a passer and could be legit floor general with the ability to attack the cup. Has excellent court vision and very nice touch as a passer. Playing alongside long time NBA PG Jarret Jack with the G-League Ignite could be a masterful apprenticeship for him. Idolizes passers like - Jason Williams, Rondo. That bodes well for his floor general stock. Tight handles and shiftiness. Plethora of deceptive moves while finishing. Can get tunnel vision, but much of that evidence is based on him at 16 or 17. Jumper is still in the development phase but there don''t appear to be any major red flags.

I saw some film of Nix, couldn't find a game. He is a excellent passer, but that's it. Kinda a worse Sharife Cooper, because he can't shoot also, his defense is atrocious, he doesn't try at all, and whenever he gets a stop oftentimes its because he is stronger then the player he is guarding. He has too many turnovers and had the potential to make the tough passes, but also leads to turnovers. Hopefully he can develop a shot and work on his defense, if he can get a shot and have decent defense then he should be a solid backup, but that's a lot of "if''s"

Second round pick, he is here because I looked at him, haven't seen many of the players yet.

Good prospect taking the other route to the NBA. He is a younger prospect and possesses nice size for his position.

I think Nix will be a big riser in the draft based purely on how competent, composed and pro-ready he looks in the G League- he''s got a Lonzo Ball-esque feel and game, with a little bit more of a Kyle Lowry mentality and level of athleticism. I don''t think he''ll ever be a perennial All Star, but he looks like the bona-fide on court leader on a G-League team with two top five picks and a buncha NBA vets. He could be the kinda guy who averages 7 and 7 in his rookie season and just keeps getting a little better until he''s an 11 and 11 player. He seems to have a fair amount of toughness and defensive potential. With how much of a crapshoot this late lottery is, I''m sure NBA teams will like to bet on a guy with a certain level of toughness, a useful floor and a helpful ceiling.

Comp: Andre Miller

Pass first guard with high basketball IQ who still needs to improve his jumper to be a longtime player in the league.

PLUSES

Strong-bodied driver who can finish inside with either hand and through contact. He’s a load to handle at his height and weight.

Displayed improved mechanics on his jumper at the NBA draft combine.

Skilled pick-and-roll playmaker who can make advanced passes, finding spot-up shooters, cutters, and rollers.

When he looks for his own shot, he excels at imposing his will with his body. Once in position, he is comfortable finishing through contact.

MINUSES

Below-the-rim finisher who also lacks a floater or pull-up jumper.

Makes a lot of turnovers. He telegraphs too many passes without zip on the ball, or takes unnecessary risks often because he lacks a jump shot as a counter to a closed passing lane.

Lacks a reliable 3-point shot off both the catch and the dribble.

Struggles defensively. He doesn’t move well laterally, and regularly got burned in the G League. Off the ball, he doesn’t bring much intensity.

Player Comp= Andre Miller

Daishen Nix opted to go to the G-league instead of the NCAA. He joined Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga to do so. All three of them were on the same team. Nix is a pure scorer that prefers to come off the bench. Nix is also a slightly above-average passer. Nix''s passing gets to be on full display because he gets to play with starts like Green and Kuminga. Nix has a bust potential though in my eyes because he isn''t as athletic as you would like your point guard to be.
