This dude gets no credit at all. I am POSITIVE this dude will get playing time on really good teams in the league. Maybe as a bench dude, maybe as a starter. I am POSITIVE he will be a plus defender from day 1. He has elite athleticism and always knows where to be. He should be able to guard 2 positions at worst, 5 at best. His shot looks well enough, and that is his swing skill. If the shot works, he can be a star. If it doesn’t, he can still contribute with his defense, obviously, but his playmaking is also pretty impressive. older, but he’s gonna make it work one way or another.

Comparison: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson +

Ceiling: ROCO +

Floor: Matt Barnes, Old Iggy

Herb Jones is a multipositional defender who can rebound, finish at the rim, is a willing passer and can handle, and has really nice IQ. The swing skill is obviously his shooting, as he is a respectable but questionable 35 percent from three and just over 70 percent from the line. His shooting will decide if he is a starter or a bench player. Jones also played point guard in high school and has nice playmaking abilities, so don't double him (fun fact: Jones had point guard size in high school, so his father had him playing PG, but experienced a Dennis Rodman, Tracy McGrady-esque growth spurt to 6-8.

Projected draft range: 40-60

Height 6'7 Weight 205 lbs Wingspan 7''1

Offense

  • Was a primary ballhandler with varying success - 4.8 AST/4.1 TO per 40.

  • Improving shooter who set career highs in FT% (71% - 92/129) & 3pt% (35% - 20/57)

  • Gets to the line at a decent clip 5.7 FTA per 40.

  • 2.5 ORBD per game in just 27 mpg.

  • Adequate leading the fastbreak.

  • Eyes stay up looking for teammates.

  • Curious to see if he can be a secondary initiator, point-forward mold at any degree in the league. Good PNR passer going left.

  • Potential to be a really strong passer out of the post.

  • Needs to develop his right hand.

Defense

  • A literal do it all defender.

  • Constantly has hands up.

  • Superb closeouts. Such good recovery skills that he can get blocks this way.

  • Active and coordinated hands on steals..

  • Verticality is strong inside, making it tough to score.

  • Super energy and hustle.

  • Instinctual help side defender.

Swing Factors

  • Shooting Skills - Needs to sure up himself as a perimeter shooter, otherwise he becomes a lot less versatile.

  • Initiator Skills - If his playmaking skills translate to some degree and at 3 levels he remains a unique guard/forward combination.

Role

  • A uniquely versatile defender who can guard 1-4 and has a developing offensive skillset with some playmaking ability.

  • LOW: His lateral quickness doesn't quite serve him as well at the NBA level and he is too weak to handle larger bigs rendering him with less defensive versatility. Offensively he creates some extra possessions, but struggles to find his shot or latch on with playmaking skills. Herb becomes an end of the rotation/bench player.

  • HIGH: Quickly Herb asserts himself defensively, guarding a wide variety of matchups outside and in. Offensively his C&S is there and he slowly becomes a reliable secondary playmaker, eventually becoming a premiere wing defender and starter for an NBA team.

Positives

-An absolutely disruptive defender, 6'7 with a 7 foot wingspan, able to guard anyone 1-4, takes bumps to the chest and cuts off angles, off ball jumps into passing lanes, swarms post-ups, just a complete defensive package

-Good passer, can make live dribble reads in drives, played a bit of the ball handler in the PnR, had the ball in big moments because of the coaching staff trust, could be a tertiary ball handler on a team

Negatives

-He's just a bad shooter, stiff release and an obvious lack of touch, hard to see a path where he becomes a good shooter

-Not a great finisher in the half court, extremely left hand dominant here, not the most vertically explosive athlete

-His handle can be a bit loose, gets ripped on drives at times

Likely range: 25-45

Good, smooth all around player on both ends of the court. He is one of the best players in college basketball. He is also one of the older prospects.

Pick 27 Brooklyn Nets:

Great defender, active hands, can guard 2-4. Would be best in a switch heavy system. Can attack close outs, has a decent handle in the open court. Okay rebounder, okay finisher, good at drawing fouls, embraces contact. Shot is the swing skill, currently the shot isn''t fluid, and the ball needs more arc. Has starter upside and back end of the bench downside
