Upsides

• ELITE ELITE defender, he is quick enough to defend smaller guards, skilled enough to defend wings, and strong enough to give smaller centers a tough time. He also is very active off the ball and makes smart plays all the time. I think you can easily call him the best wing defensive prospect we’ve seen since Mattise Thybulle, and you might even have to go further back to find someone who is comparable to Dunn

• Great athlete. He is fast, strong, and has an ideal frame for a wing in the modern NBA

• He is a good cutter on offense. He reads defenses well and is good at timing his cuts so he can catch defenders off guard

• Good finisher around the rim, he has good touch and can finish through contact with either hand

• He is by no means a ball stopper, he keeps the ball moving and makes smart passes

Downside

• He isn’t a shot creator at all. He has little control over the ball when he is handling it and he just prefers to pass it to a teammate anyway

• 3-point shooting is a big question mark, he doesn’t take many 3s and even when he does, they don’t go in

Conclusion

will add scouting report soon

Shades of: Young OG Anunoby, Herb Jones, Andre Roberson

Elite elite defender, he’s versatile, super athletic, and an incredible rim protector. His defense is pretty much the only thing getting him drafted this high. If he can be passable or even above average on offense, he’s going to be a very strong player for many years. Problem is his shooting is a big weakness. He can get to the rim a bit and he’s a good cutter, so if he can become a good play finisher, I’ll feel good about his outlook in the pros.

Taller Matisse Thybulle

Will he be good enough offensively to get solid minutes. I think he’s a good rebounder and play finisher. But a non shooter who also isn’t a great passer doesn’t scream top ten. He will undoubtedly be a great defender at the next level.

Ryan Dunn - Virginia (PF - HT: 6’8” - WING: - WT: 215 - A: )

- The best defender in the class, can guard all 5 positions
- Tons of blocks and steals
- Close to a zero on offense right now. An off-ball forward who doesn’t shoot, drive, pass, or screen very well. Just not involved and I’m not sure he’ll be able to stay on the floor due to that.
- His 3pt shot looks good but rarely goes in. Could definitely improve - it’s not like it’s broken - but rn he’s under 20% from 3.
- He CAN drive and get to the rim. I want to see him use his athleticism and strength there way more.
- Great athlete and good in transition.
- Hustles, dives for balls, solid rebounder.
- Shades of Evan Mobley, Jonathan Isaac, Jaden McDaniels, Jabari Smith Jr, Jarred Vanderbilt, small Nic Claxton
- Best fit: anywhere with a stretch 5 like MIN, IND, BOS, OKC, POR, SAS
- Worst fit: anywhere that can’t hide his lack of shooting - San Antonio, Detroit, Toronto

One of the best defenders in the draft, great frame and super athletic. Offensive game seems extremely limited with most points come from rim running in transition, offensive rebounds, and cutting. Patrick Williams.

I really want to like Ryan Dunn, just his offensive ability is not there. I do think if he gets drafted to the right team they can find an off ball fit for him to be at least a little bit impactful offensively, but if you're asking him to take over 5 self created shots a game, there will be issues.

Dunn primarily worked in the post, which makes sense considering his 20.0% 3P%, and he, for the most part, knew how to take advantage of his matchups. More often than not he thought he was more capable than he actually was, and that led to a lot of missed opportunities. I do think as a SF or PF, using him in an extended dunker's spot could be beneficial. He is extremely athletic, and can make defenses pay for ball watching.

Now defensively, he's about a sure of a thing as you can get. At the very least you are getting a + defender, that has the potential to guard 1-4, if not 1-5. His defensive instincts are some of the best I have scouted, granted in a short time period, but his ability is incredible.

Favorite Fits:

  1. Phoenix Suns

  2. Cleveland Cavaliers

  3. Denver Nuggets
