Mitchell has always been an undersized 2 guard. On top of that, Cleveland is struggling heavily against Orlando. Don’t be surprised when one of two things happens: 1) Cleveland trades DG to move Mitchell to the PG. 2) Cleveland moves Donovan to a “true contender” to either get younger or try to get a better fit (or both).

On Phoenix’s end of things, this may be a tough pill to swallow, (especially with Booker being the homegrown talent) but it may make the most amount of sense. Realistically, no one wants to trade for a 36 year old KD who’s clearly seen better days. Bradley Beal has a no trade clause so the Suns can’t expect to trade him (and even if they manage to do it, they won’t get much in return).

So that leaves Booker. Yes, he’s their best player. Yes, he’s their own, homegrown talent. All of that said, Phoenix has no draft picks through 2030 and no other realistic ways to improve their roster. They desperately need a high caliber PG and who better than Donovan Mitchell (who more than proved he can run an offense and facilitate on Cleveland’s insane mid-season run where they won 18 of 20).

Overall, Cleveland gets a better fit along-side DG and a player who’s been to the NBA finals (so he knows how to succeed) and the Suns get a player who might be as valuable in Mitchell, an excellent roll player in Georges Niang and a 2024 1st. Still think Cleveland isn’t offering enough? I’m sure they’d gladly throw in Sam Merrill to sweeten the deal. What do you guys think? Lmk below!
