Why Miami Does It:

The Heat take on a player in Bouknight, who hasn't put it all together yet but there's still clearly a good player in there. The hope would be for the former 11th pick, is that him playing in a much better system that knows how to develop talent can unlock his true potential.

Also at 27 & 34, there are going to be a plethora of prospects possibly available that project as quality role players that Miami can jump on. O-Max, Kris Murray, Jamie Jacquez, Maxwell Lewis, Ben Sheppard, Colby Jones, Julian Strawther, Andre Jackson Jr, etc.

Why Charlotte Does It:

This trade clealry signals that the coaching staff is prioritizing the development of McGowens over Bouknight. This would be the smart move, since Bryce has shown more promise in his rookie season than Bouknight has in his two seasons on the team.

Moving 27 & 34 wouldn't hurt, since everybody already knows Charlotte won't be making all their picks at draft night. Moving up to 18, can net them a good player or maybe they vulture on a player that has fallen farther then they should have.
