Philly:

  • Philly takes a risk here betting that John Wall can somewhat shape back into form, but getting him is better than not having anything in compensation for Simmons absence. Wall can provide the playmaking that Simmons had, and also provides some shot-making ability that he lacked. At the same time, he provides a veteran presence and potential to play at an all-star level. You take a hit defensively, but you have enough defensive pieces to survive the hit.

  • You replace an aging player on a questionable contract in Danny Green for a younger alternative in KJ Martin, who is on a much better contract and can fulfill the role that green left (or even eventually exceed it).

  • The biggest part of the deal are the FIVE first round picks Philly is getting. Although they arent a rebuilding team, having this amount of draft capital is extremely advantageous in the trade market over other competitive teams if an A-list superstar becomes available for trade (Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, etc.). You have big salaries that can match theirs (Wall, Harris, etc.), intriguing young assets (Maxey, Thybulle, KJ Martin, etc.), and now have more draft picks than anyone else which can be used to make a very appealing trade package for them.

Overall this trade for Philly still keeps them competitive, while also putting them in perhaps an even better position to land a big fish in the trade market.

C- Embiid

Second unit: Maxey, Milton, Korkmaz, Martin Jr., Drummond, Niang.

Houston:

  • Houston has always been of the mindset that this will be a quicker rebuild, and Ben Simmons is a star caliber player that makes this possible. A core of KPJ, Jalen Green, and Ben Simmons could potentially be a devastating one in the future, providing a good amount of size, scoring and defense. Additionally, there is plenty of spacing around Simmons in Houston, with Eric Gordon and Christian Wood at center there as well. Houston now has exciting young players in KPJ, Green, Josh Christopher, Christian Wood, and Ben Simmons to make them a highly competitive squad in the future and perhaps even in the short term as well.

  • The number of picks houston gives up here arent even that bad, since they are all BKN and MIL picks. Houston still retains all of their own firsts in this deal.

  • Houston also gets a championship experienced veteran in Danny Green, who is another floor spacer and can be a great mentor to the younger players on the team.
