Why Orlando Does It: In a recent post from Shams today, he said "The Magic have sought draft capital, such as a 1st round pick for Ross." Now me personally I wouldn't even think about trading a 1st for T-Ross if I was the GM of another team, but all it takes is one. In this trade scenario Orlando gets their 1st via UTA (Top-6 Protected) which is going to be a late 1st, but it's still what they would want. They would also take a flyer on 2 young players.

Culver's NBA career hasn't been good at all, but maybe on a team like Orlando where he'll get more chances to play he could end up being something. If it doesn't pan out then they can just let him go in the off-season, the main asset is the draft pick. Merrill was an exceptional perimeter shooter at Utah State, so maybe with a little more minutes he becomes a Grayson Allen type of player for Orlando (Highly doubt it).

Why Memphis Does This: The Grizzlies are a team that is playing outstanding basketball at the moment, without their best player in Ja. When everybody is healthy, they have a very formidable starting 5 of Ja-Bane-Brooks-JJJ-Adams. What I do feel like they lack is someone who can just be a flat out scorer off the bench. Insert Terrence Ross.

T-Ross checks off that box, even if he's a streaky player. Losing two players who are nowhere near the rotation & a 1st that might as well be recognized as a early 2nd wouldn't hurt Memphis at all. If the Grizzlies do want to improve their team without trading away any depth, then this might be the trade for Zach Kleiman to make.
