Will Donovan Mitchell Be On The Move???

SUCCESS

I'm going to be honest. If I'm the Cavs, I have zero reasons to trade Donovan Mitchell. However, there have been rumours about a Donovan Mitchell trade for months, so it's worth exploring. This move is a match made in heaven for both the Thunder, and Mitchell. If the Cavs must trade him, this move would give them great pieces to develop, restart, or trade for another star.

OKC THUNDER

C - Chet Holmgren PF - Jalen Williams SF - Lu Dort SG - Donovan Mitchell PG - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

The thunder have been the most surprising team in the NBA this season. Now sitting as the second seed in the western conference, they are nearly a lock to make the playoffs this season. Despite premature success, the thunder have faced two major critiques surrounding their roster. Firstly, this roster has little to no playoff experience. Secondly, they've struggled to find consistent scoring outside of Shai. This trade would solve both of these problems. Donovan Mitchell fits their timeline (27 years old) and has proven himself to be a force in the playoffs. Additionally, his play style meshes very well with OKC's current roster. Although he plays shooting guard, Mitchell is an elite playmaker, averaging just 0.3 assists less than Shai. His shooting ability, crafty finishing, and great IQ would solidify OKC's backcourt as the best in the NBA. Additionally, the Thunder's current roster operates with fantastic perimeter defence, meaning the roster will have no trouble negating Mitchell's one drawback. The best part for the Thunder is that they don't have to break the bank to get him. Unfortunately, the Thunder just don't have the minutes to give to everyone on their roster. Cason Wallace and Josh Giddey are good players, however they are nowhere near Mitchell's level. The thunder accomplish this trade by giving up just two mid tier prospects, one regular season rotation player, and a bad contract. And somehow, they will still have a league leading 31 draft picks. If the Cavs ever decide to trade Mitchell, the Thunder should hop on the phone immediately.

CLEVELAND CAVS

C - Jarrett Allen PF - Evan Mobley SF - Max Strus SG - Josh Giddey PG - Darius Garland

As mentioned earlier, I don't believe the Cavs should trade Donovan Mitchell. However, if they (or he) decides to end his time there, this trade should be at the top of their list. This trade gives the Cavs a ridiculous amount of roster flexibility, providing them with one of the youngest rosters in the league. They receive two promising young players, another young rotation player, an expiring contract, and a plethora of valuable first round picks. This trade would benefit them in multiple different situations. Firstly, these are fantastic pieces to kickstart a rebuild. If they decide to go that route, they'll be receiving three players age 22 or under, and draft picks. Secondly, this package would be very competitive when trading for star players. If they decide Mitchell isn't their answer, they could put together a very competitive offer for any disgruntled star that wants out. Many stars would look forward to playing with an elite playmaker like Garland, and elite defenders like Mobley and Allen. If the Cavs do decide to trade Donovan Mitchell, this should meet their asking price.
