Why the Mavericks do this: The Knicks have been clearing cap space to make a splash in free agency. The Kemba Walker trade only supports the idea that they are going at least attempt to make a big move. The reports say that Kyrie Irving is almost 100% guaranteed to leave, but only the Lakers are interested. The Knicks are putting all their chips in on Jalen Brunson. This puts the Mavs in a tough spot to kick off free agency. As good as Jalen is, and as much as he means to the team, can the Mavs really afford to throw him $100 Million over 4 seasons? It seems the only choice for Nico Harrison is to try and get something back. Obviously Cam Reddish is not nearly as good as Jalen Brunson, but he could be a very big part of this Mavericks team and a championship run. A very good defensive wing such as Reddish is a very big piece of the puzzle for Dallas. Could Reddish be the guy who pushes the Mavericks into the promised land?
