The Argument For Every Top 2024 Prospect To Be a Bust

To be clear I don’t actually think all of these guys will be a bust, just pointing out that all of these guys have a decent bust chance and are flawed prospects. Feel free to push back on my evaluations of these guys if you disagree

Sarr: not a floor spacer, skinny for a big, could struggle to find a role in an nba offense if he’s not a def creation threat. He’s not that good of a good post up big, passer, or screener. Could see him just trying to be a self creator his whole career and ending up similar to bol bol

Reed: if the shot for whatever reason doesn’t fall, what else can we bank on him being good at? He’s a 2 that’s only 6’3 and pretty small. Could get bullied on defense and outshined by better offensive players on that end and struggle to keep minutes. This was the hardest one to do tho

Zachary Risacher: he’s a good defender but shaky lateral quickness at times, could get blown by by faster players? It’s easy to see him not pan out on offense, the shot doesn’t fall and he has nothing else except off ball movement. That’s not a good nba offensive player. He lacks elite playmaking or shot creation, he’s just an off ball wing and if you’re an off ball wing who’s skills don’t translate it’s gonna be hard for him to stick in the league

Donovan Clingan: I think there’s no way he’s just fully a bust, but he could be just an alright player who’s very replaceable. He has no floor spacing or versatility on defense, he’s just a screener and post player pretty much on offense and a rim protector on defense. Couldn’t see him being out of the league in 2 years, but I could see him never becoming a starter

Rob Dillingham: absolutely awful defender, he’s an incredible offensive player but he may be such a bad defender that he can’t be played in close games or playoff time

Nikola Topic: guards that can’t shoot or play defense have to be so good at other things to succeed in the NBA. He could fail in the nba for the same reason Killian Hayes didn’t - an inability to shoot. It can jeopardize the spacing of a team, and he doesn’t have the defense of Killian to compensate

Matas Buzelis: the shot has to come around for him not to be a bust. His percentages are awful, it’s like 24% from 3 and 65% from free throw, these are absolutely awful. He has to improve that, and if he doesn’t he could be out of the league quickly. Not an incredible scorer (shows flashes but not very good rn), very skinny, not a good perimeter defender, low motor defender, he has a lot of weaknesses which could make him a very boom or bust prospect

Ron Holland: On offense I could see him just being nothing. It’s so hard to stick in the nba if you can’t shoot and there are no indicators that he will be able to. Hes a terrible passer and overall not a smart player, if the scoring doesn’t super translate and I dont think it will idk what he does on offense. No ancillary skills to be a role player. His defense isnt game changing so he doesn’t stick on the court like a matisse thybulle because of it, it’s above average nothing more. An above average defender and just a transition guy/play finisher who can’t shoot could end up being a guy who doesn’t stick in the league

Steph Castle: pretty simple with him, he’s overall a pretty well rounded player except for his one main weakness - his shooting is awful. He’s a spacing killer who can’t shoot at all, these guards rarely stick in the nba unless you’re just incredible at everything else, like I said on the Nikola topic one.

Let me know any other guys you want to see for part 2
