CHI

Chicago acquires Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs for Thaddeus Young and Ryan Arcidiacono. Furthermore, as an additional cost for acquiring a franchise defensive point guard like Murray, Chicago must move down 7 spots in the 2020 NBA Draft. However, this is worth it to the Bulls, because they get a strong ball-handler who can make plays, as Coby White would receive an additional year to develop as Chicago's sixth man. Also, White can play SG as well, so Chicago would have an intriguing trio of guards in the form of Murray, White, and LaVine. Murray's defensive prowess and skills as a stopper should fit perfectly next to Zach LaVine as well. Dejounte Murray can be a franchise point guard for the Bulls, and he does fit with Lauri Markkanen, Zach LaVine, Wendell Carter Jr. as well as Otto Porter Jr. Further, since Coby White can play SG on occasion, the Bulls could even run a Murray-White backcourt at times when LaVine goes to the bench.

SAS

San Antonio acquires veteran power forward Thaddeus Young and a young backup point guard in Ryan Arcidiacono. Now, San Antonio entrusts Derrick White as their starting franchise point guard moving forward. Furthermore, they now would be in prime position and have a great opportunity at selecting Deni Avdija with the 4th pick. While losing Murray may hurt, San Antonio can still stay mildly competitive, with an intriguing mix of young players like White, Walker IV, Johnson, Samanic, and Avdija to go with quality veterans like DeRozan, Aldridge, Mills, and Young bringing the experience. San Antonio could once again very well be in the mix to make the playoffs.

The Bulls accelerate their rebuild while San Antonio tries to find the perfect balance of veterans and youth, to make another run at the postseason in 2021 after missing the 2020 Playoffs. Also, drafting Avdija would be very interesting to the Spurs.

Is this a good trade?
